Stuck Inside (Again)? Indulge In These At-Home Spa Essentials

Earlier this week, California spas, salons, gyms, and other businesses were closed (again) due to the coronavirus. After reopening my L.A. atelier in the beginning of July, I — like many other small business owners — had to shift gears and pack up shop just as I was getting back into my groove. I really feel for the people and businesses who are suffering, but part of me is happy about the second shutdown.

During the first shutdown, I finally had time to focus on myself. I realized that while I’m passionate about encouraging others to care for themselves, I had been neglecting my own self-care by burying myself in work. When I had to hit pause on my business because of the pandemic, I was able to continue my recovery journey and heal myself emotionally and spiritually in ways that I wasn’t allowing myself to do so before.

Translation: I remembered how to feed my soul and really sit with me, myself, and I.

I know we’re living in challenging times. That’s why I want to remind people to take this opportunity to maintain their holistic self-care routine and avoid pressuring yourself to be “productive.” Productivity can take the form of many things: Meditating, praying, cooking, family time, and even boredom, which can actually help boost our creativity.

I’ve found that quarantining has helped me reconnect with myself. One of my favorite ways to enjoy “me” time is by creating a spa experience — and it’s something I encourage everyone to do. It can be something as simple as taking a bath by candlelight or something as decadent as a 12-step facial with all of your favorite skincare tools and products. Find a wellness routine that speaks to you and create an atmosphere that inspires you to care for your mind, body, and soul.

You don’t have to buy the most expensive gear — but for those who are stuck at home and incorporating retail therapy into their self-care routine (no judgment!), I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite wellness products below.

Theragun Prime Percussive Body Massager ($299): When you can’t get an appointment with your massage therapist, a body massager like the Theragun is a great at-home alternative. Not only is it great for soothing your muscles after a workout, it also gives an effective deep tissue massage to help soothe any tension and tightness.

Hey Dewy Portable Humidifer ($39): Not only does a humidifier help create a warm and relaxing setting, it also helps to clean the air and hydrates your skin. This portable option by Hey Dewy is great for replenishing your skin while on the go — plus, it includes a USB charger so you can power it with your laptop or car.

Origins Ginger Body Scrub ($42): This is one of my absolute favorite salt scrubs. The Dead Sea salts really scrub all of that dead skin off your body to reveal soft, smooth skin. I love the warm scent of the ginger zest, and the macadamia, soybean, kukui nut, and sweet almond oils really help nourish your skin
